What do we do on Sundays generally? Spend more time in bistar (bed), have heavy breakfast and watch good movies! That’s precisely I started with today but couple of hours later than normal. Read a full page article on chemistry of love in Sunday Times (FYI: I was FAIL in my Chenistry in class 12th). Checked TV schedule! It looked like it was Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) special today. Kuchh Kuchh Hota Hai in noon followed by Dil Toh Pagal Hai in the evening and then Rab Ne Banadi Jodi now (@10 pm)! Probably overdose of SRK. I know there are many people who don’t like him (who cares I like him)!! However there is no second thought that he is the lover boy of Bollywood. Nobody loves like SRK does! From Raj, Rahul, My Name is Khan (was it a love story? Yes. To me, it was!) However I think it was the role of Surinder Suri in Rab Ne Banadi Jodi (RNBJ) which was out of his comfort zone, zarraa hatake….! An extraordinary love story of an ordinary man. Let’s explore.
Plot
Unlike other SRK-Yashraj films where there are larger than life sets, a smart rich NRI hero meets equally beautiful heroin at some foreign location. RNBJ is ploted in Amritsar, Punjab. Surinder Suri (Suriji) an employee of some electricity company falls in love of Tanya (Tani) at first sight! Circumstances force him to marry Tani, his first love, his dream girl. Suri is a common middle class man wears glasses, moustaches, formals with sport shoes, drives a scooter works like a government employee. And on the other side there is Tani, who is a charm! Loves dancing, singing and believes in living a happy life. She shares her expressions without hesitation. She respected Suriji’s compromise and took it as her duty as his wife. Just without love…but love is everything!
Tuj mein Rab Dikhta Hai! (I can see God in your face!)
Suri believes in waheguru (God)! He says when you love someone, you see god in that person’s face. Here an ordinary Suriji sees god in Tani. His love is immense. He feels scared of god since he loves Tani more than God! He tries a gimmick with her by playing a flamboyant, extrovert and outspoken guy who eventually make her love him. He tasted her love for Suriji. Flamboyance diverts her for some time, lures her however at the end its Suriji’s simplicity which wins her. Be it anyone, Brad Pitt or a normal street guy, everyone sees god in his loved ones. Because love is being yourself not acting who you are not! Love checks your patience and at the end it goes to simplicity because it stays with you forever. You have to find yourself and stick to what you are. You should not try to be someone else to impress her. This is not the way of love! So be simple it will lead you to your love. Remember being simple is not simple. Try it…!
Ordinary or Extraordinary
We have a misconception about love. I have seen people show off things, behaving as if they are extraordinary in order to get love. This might take you near to your love and give you a feeling of love, but that’s the end. If you are so lucky, you might win your love this way but stability is questionable here. Down the line you will become normal and your love interest will think you have changed. Because you set high expectations earlier and now you are tired of show off and want her/him to except the way you are. Don’t you think this is like cheating your partner? And cheating is not the way to love. Let someone love the person you are not someone who you are not! You have to be persistent in order to get you love. Here this doesn’t mean you should not try or put efforts to get your love. You must put concrete and conscious efforts to get love being yourself with all honesty and clarity. Your love will guide you and give you confidence. You are already a superstar the way you are. This is just a question of being aware about yourself. You are unique in this entire globe. Now big question is how do we do this? How do I see god in someone? How do I be myself? I mean should I try to show that I’m not trying? Isn’t it difficult? See lots of questions! Let me tell you, this is not at all easy. On the other hand, this is not easy that is why we want to get it. So secret is to be true to yourself and to others. This might sound philosophical, but can’t help! It is true that truth is the ultimate solution. Do you know why SRK is so popular among girls, women and elders? Because he always portrays characters which are truthful and honest in his conduct & behavior. He displays morality and right path which looks difficult but assures to get his lady-love in the film. It is true in real life as well. He respects elders and treat everyone equally at the same time puts forward his opinions. This characteristic show cases his reliability and trust. Love is impossible without trust and reliability. Trust can b won with consistent truthful conduct only. So friends, be true to yourself and others. It will help you find the face in which you will see your god…! As they say manganese to khuda bhi mil jata hai!! (if you try hard enough, you will find god also.
Let me leave you with a warning that this is not easy. There will be lots of hurdles to stop and lure you to chose the short cuts (wrong path). At that time put your hand on your heart, close your eyes and ask a question to yourself “is it right for me to do this? How my love will feel when he/she will come to know about this?” I know god will help you to select the true path (it helps SRK in every movie)!
